What a service includes

We work to the manufacturer's maintenance checklist. You get a written record of every item, which is what your warranty asks for.

  • Filters removed, washed, dried and refitted
  • Indoor coil cleaned to stop mould and smells building up
  • Fan and air outlet checked and cleaned
  • Condensate drain and tray flushed, and any pump tested
  • Outdoor coil cleaned and cleared of leaves and debris
  • Outdoor fan, bracket and mounts checked
  • Refrigerant pressures and temperatures measured
  • Pipe joints checked for signs of a leak
  • Air temperature in and out measured to confirm performance
  • Electrical connections and isolator checked
  • Remote, timers and app control tested in cooling and heating
  • Written service record for your warranty, plus our advice on anything we found

How often to service

Most homes need one service a year. Systems that work harder, or whose warranty asks for more, need two or more.

How the system is usedHow oftenWhy
Home, cooling in summer onlyOnce a year, ideally in springClean and checked before the hot weather arrives
Home, heating and cooling all yearTwice a yearThe system works through every season, so filters and coils clog faster
LG systemsTwice a yearLG's warranty terms ask for servicing twice yearly
Offices and shopsAt least twice a yearLonger running hours and more people mean more dust and wear
Server rooms and salonsThree or more times a yearConstant running, or hair and product in the air, clog units quickly

Servicing and your manufacturer warranty

Each manufacturer sets its own rule. Miss a service and you may lose cover when you need it most.

BrandServicing neededWhat to keep
DaikinEvery 12 monthsProof of annual maintenance, shown on request
PanasonicEvery 12 monthsAnnual maintenance records
LGTwice a yearA record of each visit
Mitsubishi ElectricCheck your warranty document; annual is the safe minimumA record of each visit

Any F-Gas certified engineer can do the servicing. It doesn't have to be the company that installed it.

How a service visit works

  1. Book

Use the service form or call. Tell us the brand, how many indoor units you have and when it was last serviced.

  2. Visit

We confirm a slot. The engineer puts down dust sheets and switches the system off safely before starting.

  3. Service

Every item on the checklist, indoors and out. A single wall unit usually takes 45–60 minutes.

  4. Test

We run the system in cooling and heating and measure the air temperatures to confirm it's working as it should.

  5. Record

You get a written service record for your warranty file, and a price in writing for anything that needs fixing.

F-Gas leak checks: does your system need one?

F-Gas leak checks are a legal requirement for larger systems. The rule depends on how much refrigerant the system holds, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e), not on its kW size.

The threshold is 5 tCO2e. That's about 2.4 kg of R410A, or roughly 7.4 kg of R32. Most home single splits on R32 hold well under that, so they don't legally need a leak check, although we check the joints at every service anyway. Many multi-splits and commercial systems, and older R410A systems, are over the line.

  • 5 to under 50 tCO2e: a leak check at least every 12 months
  • 50 to under 500 tCO2e: at least every 6 months
  • 500 tCO2e and above: at least every 3 months, with automatic leak detection
  • Automatic leak detection fitted: the interval doubles
  • After a leak is repaired: check again within a month

Commercial servicing

We service wall units, ceiling cassettes and ducted units in offices, shops, restaurants and salons. Commercial servicing is priced per indoor unit, plus VAT, and quoted for your site. Grouping every unit into one visit keeps the cost per unit down.

As the operator, the business is responsible for F-Gas leak checks and records. We book the checks at the right interval, keep the log up to date and send you a copy after each visit.

If the air conditioning you control adds up to more than 12 kW, you also need a TM44 energy inspection at least every 5 years, carried out by an accredited energy assessor. That's separate from servicing. Tell us your total kW and we'll tell you whether it applies.

Between services

A few minutes now and then keeps the system running well until its next service.

  • Wash the filters every 2–4 weeks while the system is in heavy use
  • Keep plants, bins and furniture clear of the outdoor unit so air can flow
  • Brush leaves off the outdoor unit in autumn
  • Note any new noise, smell, drip or error code and tell us at the next visit
  • Keep every service record together with your warranty paperwork

Servicing questions

How much does an air conditioning service cost?

Our annual service is £119 including VAT for a single split system. Each extra indoor unit serviced on the same visit is £59. Commercial servicing is priced per indoor unit, plus VAT.

How often should air conditioning be serviced?

Once a year for most homes, ideally in spring. Twice a year if you use it for heating through the winter, or if it's an LG system. Offices and shops should have at least two services a year.

Does servicing keep my warranty valid?

Yes, if it's done at the interval your manufacturer asks for and you keep the record. Daikin and Panasonic ask for a service every 12 months, and LG twice a year. Any F-Gas certified engineer can do it.

Do you service systems you didn't install?

Yes. We service Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, LG and Panasonic, and most other split systems, including Fujitsu, Toshiba and Samsung. It doesn't matter who fitted it.

How long does a service take?

About 45–60 minutes for a single wall unit. Each extra indoor unit adds some time, and a very dirty system takes longer. We'll give you an idea when you book.

Will you top up the refrigerant during a service?

Not without a reason. A split system is sealed, so if the pressure is low there's a leak. We find and fix the leak first, then refill to the correct weight. Topping up without a repair breaks good F-Gas practice and wastes your money.

Can I service the air conditioning myself?

You can wash the filters and keep the outdoor unit clear, and that helps a lot. Anything involving refrigerant needs an F-Gas certified engineer by law, and a DIY clean won't count as a service for your warranty.

What happens if I don't service my air conditioning?

Filters and coils clog, so the system works harder, costs more to run and cools or heats less well. Drains can block and drip indoors, and coils can start to smell. You may also lose your manufacturer warranty.
