What is the best air conditioning brand in the UK?

There isn't one best brand for everyone. Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, LG and Panasonic all make quiet, efficient heat pump air conditioning. They differ on efficiency, design, price and warranty terms. Here's an honest comparison built from each manufacturer's own UK figures.

The short answer

For the lowest running costs, Mitsubishi Electric's MSZ-LN, Daikin's Perfera and Panasonic's Etherea lead on published efficiency. For the lowest price, LG. For a unit that's on show, Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric have the most design choice. For quiet bedrooms, all four have a model that goes down to 19 dB(A).

The badge matters less than people think. The warranty you get depends on your installer's status with the manufacturer, and a poorly sized or badly fitted premium unit will perform worse than a well-fitted value one.

2.5 kW wall units compared

Each brand's premium model, plus two value models, from the manufacturers' UK spec sheets and product pages. Higher SEER and SCOP mean lower running costs.

Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-LN25VG3Premium10.55.219 dB(A)
Panasonic Etherea KIT-Z25-CKEPremium9.505.2019 dB(A)

Panasonic TZ KIT-TZ25-WKEValue7.004.6020 dB(A)

SCOP is for the average European climate. Quietest is indoor sound pressure in cooling on the lowest fan setting. Checked October 2026; your quote names the exact model.

Brand by brand

Daikin: the Perfera comes in seven sizes from 2.0 to 7.1 kW, and Daikin says one outdoor unit can run up to five indoor units. App control is through Daikin Onecta. Emura and Stylish are its design ranges. The Perfera is a premium-range price with us.

Mitsubishi Electric: the MSZ-LN25 has the highest cooling efficiency we found at 2.5 kW, comes in four colours, and has Wi-Fi built in for the MELCloud Home app. Its MSZ-AP range starts at 1.5 kW for very small rooms. The MSZ-LN is a design-range price with us.

Panasonic: the Etherea matches the premium efficiency figures and comes in sizes from 2.0 to 7.1 kW, with built-in Wi-Fi for the Comfort Cloud app. The TZ is its value range, with a compact indoor unit.

LG: the value choice. Even the DUALCOOL Standard Plus lists 19 dB(A) on its lowest fan, and the DUALCOOL Deluxe adds Wi-Fi for the ThinQ app. Its published efficiency is lower than the premium ranges, and its warranty asks for more frequent servicing.

Warranty and servicing terms

General terms from each manufacturer's UK website or published warranty document. The length you get depends on the installer's status with that brand.

BrandWarranty availableServicing condition
DaikinTypically 1 or 3 years as standard; up to 5 years through a Certified Installer, up to 7 through D1 and D1+ partnersAnnual maintenance, with proof on request
Mitsubishi ElectricUp to 5, 7 or 10 years, depending on the installer's partner tierNot set out on its partner page; check your warranty document
LG3 years basic, 5 years through an LG-trained F-Gas installer, plus 10 years on a single split's compressor (part only)Must be serviced biannually
Panasonic3, 5 or 7 years parts and labour, depending on the installer's tierMaintenance every year, with records kept

Why the installer matters more than the badge

For all four brands, the warranty length depends on the installer's status with the manufacturer. Panasonic's terms, for example, ask the installer to register each unit on its PRO Club within 30 days of installation. A system that isn't registered, or isn't serviced, can lose its cover.

Performance depends on the install too: the right size for the room, pipework that's pressure-tested and vacuumed properly, a drain with a proper fall and a sensible outdoor position. Ask any installer to put the exact model, the warranty length, who registers it and what servicing it needs in writing.

How to choose

  • Using it for heating through winter: favour a premium model with a high SCOP
  • Occasional summer cooling only: a value model is fine, as the running cost difference is small
  • Bedroom: any model with 19 to 20 dB(A) on its quietest setting, sized correctly
  • On show in a living room: look at Daikin Emura or Stylish, Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-LN colours or Zen, or LG ARTCOOL
  • Very small room: ask about the smallest sizes, such as Mitsubishi Electric's MSZ-AP from 1.5 kW, so the unit isn't oversized
  • Several rooms: pick one brand, as a multi-split outdoor unit only runs its own maker's indoor units
  • Servicing: LG asks for servicing biannually, the others yearly, so budget for it

Brand questions

Which air conditioning brand is the most reliable?

We haven't found independent UK reliability data that ranks them fairly, so we won't make one up. All four are major manufacturers with long warranties available. Reliability in practice depends heavily on a correct install and regular servicing.

Which air conditioning brand is the most energy efficient?

On published figures at 2.5 kW, Mitsubishi Electric's MSZ-LN25 leads in cooling with a SEER of 10.5. Panasonic's Etherea (9.50) and Daikin's Perfera (9.47) are close behind, and all three have a heating SCOP of about 5.2.

Which brand is the quietest?

It's a tie on the headline figure. Daikin Perfera, Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-LN, Panasonic Etherea and LG DUALCOOL all list 19 dB(A) on their quietest setting at 2.5 kW. Compare the low and high figures as well, and don't oversize.

Is LG as good as Daikin or Mitsubishi Electric?

For many homes, yes. LG units are quiet, heat as well as cool and cost less. Their published efficiency is lower than the premium ranges, which matters most if you heat with them all winter, and LG's warranty asks for servicing biannually.

Does the brand affect the warranty?

Yes, and so does the installer. Each brand sets its own terms, and the length you get depends on the installer's tier with that brand. Panasonic's terms cover parts and labour; Daikin's and Mitsubishi Electric's pages don't say, so ask.

Do you work on other brands like Fujitsu, Toshiba or Samsung?

We install Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, LG and Panasonic. We service and repair those and most other split systems, including Fujitsu, Toshiba and Samsung, whoever fitted them.
